“A jungle paradise of lush vegetation, exotic creatures and bouncy rhythms a plenty; saturated in an immutable party spirit.”
As you must know, Marimba is a platform dedicated to pushing UK Funky, a genre that – rather cruelly – has been written off by many as a gimmick consigned to the late noughties. What they clearly don’t understand is its capacity to make a whole room start bouncing in less than 60 seconds. Brighton brand Tropicalé, however, have most certainly grasped this fact. They caught our eye in the latter part of last year as one of a few groups properly pushing our beloved genre. Blended with this is an appreciation of carnival culture, a homage to the melting-pot of influences from across the globe that mould UK Funky into a versatile and genuinely innovative sound.
They have burst onto the Brighton nightlife scene in recent months and with two events under their belt already they are now teaming up with Friday night heavyweights, ‘Foundations’. This latest party features an artist that fully encapsulates the Tropicalé sound; an energy and excitement drawn from tribal and carnival influences simultaneously fused with chestplate breaking bass drawn straight from the UK underground.
Famous for both their DJ and live sets, Jus Now are fully establishing themselves as a pioneer of this new hybrid of UK and world music.
As always with Tropicalé and Foundations, support on the night is solid! Brighton wonderkid Hamdi will be supplying his own breed of UK Bass and CDJ wizardry into the early hours of the morning (he will probably MC at the same time and triple drop all of your favourite tunes at once, because that is just the kind of shit he does for fun). As well as Hamdi, you will be able to experience the melting pot of Brighton music in the form of the Tropicale DJ’s. This group is made up of a garage producer, a UK Funky ambassador and a guy who’s edits and track combinations will blow your bloody head off!
